A few musings from Kansas by a high school literature teacher. Over the past few months, this blog has turned a commentary on media. I will probably continue to focus on film and television, but books and music might sneak in... Okay - maybe hate is too strong. But - boy, do I really dislike Fullscreen (or "pan and scan") movies. Here is a great link that uses The Prisioner of Azkaban to show what happens to a movie when it is turned into a Fullscreen version. Check it out! It's a wonderful example of how much of the story gets chopped off in the pan-and-scan process.

I am a Literature teacher in Kansas. Currently, I am wondering if it is possible to communicate a passion for Lit in a way that my students will catch the same passion...or any passion for that matter! :-) (Ahh - the joys of communicating a deep love of language to high school students with the added challenge of quite possibly having the worst spelling in the history of English teachers. ) :-)

As a good friend of mine says, the disclaimer at the beginning of Full Screen movies should read "This movie has been reformated to suck."
